We all know that the whole world is suffering from the covid-19 virus. More than 600,000 has lost their life, and the whole world is facing economic crisis. Everything is closed, daily basis workers and students are most affected. Everyone wants to stay safe but for that they need to stay home and that won't suffice their daily expenses. Now covid-19 vaccine is the only ray of hope.
There are several countries and scientist in the world who are trying to get the first covid-19 vaccine. There are a few vaccines for which the whole world is waiting like vaccine produced by the  Oxford, Moderna vaccines. So today we will discuss about all those covid-19 vaccines, which are leading the race to protect the world.

Vaccines:

There are several vaccines which are running in the race, but there are very few of them which are on the top like:-

1. Oxford’s potential covid-19 vaccine or AZD1222- this vaccine induces immune reaction and the patient would be considered immune. The Lancet on Monday published these results in medical journal. This is a hope for the cure for covid-19 that has killed thousands of population and disrupted human activity across the globe. This is widely followed by the advance stage, with trials in the UK, Brazil and South Africa. The UK government and Oxford already made a collaboration with biopharma major Astra Zeneca and serum institute. India would produce the vaccine on a large scale if the final result would be positive.

The result published in The Lancet confirmed that a single dose of AZD1222 had produced T cells after 14 days and antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 after 30 days in the participant.

The antibodies neutralizing the activity of SARS-CoV-2 was seen in 91% of participants one month after vaccination and in 100% of participants who received a second dose.  The levels of neutralising antibodies seen in participants receiving either one or two doses were in a similar range to those seen in convalescent COVID-19 patients..
According to the Astra Zeneca- the early safety responses confirmed that transient local and systemic reactions were common in the AZD1222 group and were comparable to previous trials and other adenoviral vector vaccines. They included normal and temporary injection site pain and tenderness, having mild-to-moderate headache, fatigue, chills, feverishness, malaise and muscle ache. There are no serious adverse effect reported with AZD1222, and these reactions can be reduced with the use of prophylactic paracetamol, a pain killer. These side effects reduced during the 2nd dose.

Professor Andrew Pollard, Chief investigator of the Oxford Vaccine Trial at Oxford University and co-author of the trial, said: “The interim Phase I/II data for our coronavirus vaccine shows that the vaccine did not lead to any unexpected reactions and had a similar safety profile to previous vaccines of this type. The immune responses observed following vaccination are in line with what we expect will be associated with protection against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, although we must continue with our rigorous clinical trial programme to confirm this. We saw the strongest immune response in participants who received two doses of the vaccine, indicating that this might be a good strategy for vaccination”.

2. Vaccine developed by Moderna- American firm Moderna Therapeutics developed an mRNA molecule name- mRNA-1273 – is among the leading candidate in human trial for a working vaccine against the COVID-19-causing SARS-CoV-2 virus. The New England Journal of Medicine published that the results of the vaccine has been found to be safe and provoked a good immune response in the early testing done on volunteers

Now Dr. Gyani and Dr. Sharma will tell you more about this in today’s bulletin “Mann ki baat sabke sath”-

3. In between all this Sechnov University, Russia said that- university has successfully completed tests on volunteers of the world’s first vaccine against COVID-19. “The vaccine is safe. The volunteers were discharged on 15th July and on 20th July” – chief researcher Elena Smolyarchuk told TASS on Sunday.

Russia has also allowed the clinical trials of two forms of a potential corona virus vaccine developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology on June 18.

1. The first vaccine, is in the form of solution for IM (intramuscular) administration route, and was carried out at the Burdenko Military Hospital.

2. The another is in the form of a powder for the preparation of a solution for intramuscular administration route, and was carried out at Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. The first stage of research on the vaccine at Sechenov University involved a group of 18 volunteers and the second group involved 20 volunteers.

After vaccination, all volunteers were expected to remain in isolation in the  hospital for 28 days.

4.Indian Covaxin- if we will talk about Indian vaccine named Covaxin which has become a new ray of hope in our country. This is first indigenous covid-19 vaccine. It is an inactivated vaccine. This covaxin is manufactured by Bharat Biotech and National Institute of Virology, which is situated in Hyderabad and Pune. They got the approval by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization and they started their phase 1 and 2 trial together. These trials are going all over India in various hospitals.

But this drug comes under the big controversy after the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) announces the release date of the covaxin on 15th August, Independence day. According to the ICMR and Bharat biotech- the vaccine shows promising results in the preclinical trial but the result is not shared by them so far.
I already wrote about the Covid-19 and name of the drugs and vaccine usefull in it

My Opinion on our indigenous -19 vaccine - Covaxin

Bharat Biotech and ICMR recently announced about the Covaxin. So it seems impossible to go from phase 1 of human trials to hitting market in 45 days. If we try so, then the vaccine would  carry a high potential risk  to the patients.

Some experts also commented on it- “the intention of releasing a vaccine soon are good but it seems unrealistic that it will be ready in just 45 days” said by Dr. T Jacob John ( virologist), bio ethics expert  Dr Anant Bhan said “ it is highly unlikely, not just for Covaxin vaccine candidate but for all covid vaccine candidate”.

But ICMR on 4th July,2020  warned 12 hospitals around  India where the trial are happening right now. It the letter written by the ICMR, it is clearly mentioned “that non-compliance will be viewed very seriously. Therefore, you are advised to meet the given timelines without any lapses”. In a press released it said while issues raised in public domain by commentators are welcome the best of India’s medical professionals and research scientists should not be second guessed for their professionalism or adherence to the highest scientific rigour.

In the interview to the New Indian express on the second of July, the chairperson of Bharat Biotech DR. Krishna said the vaccine won’t be available till 2021. So there is a  big difference in the ICMR and Bharat biotech. No one knows why the ICMR is doing so much rush. Right now the covaxin is doing 1st and 2nd  trail together but these will take time up to august and also the  3rd the most crucial trial is left. Which itself would take 3 to 4 months to get an idea about the effect of the  vaccine.

Yes we all need vaccine right now in India seeing the current situation. I am not opposing the Indian covaxin. Researcher do said that covaxin worked well on the animal. So it means that covaxin has a good potential. But we cannot neglect the  trail time period.
