The development of any nation depends on the number skilled and employed people working in it. In India we have literacy rate up to 92% but if we deeply think and see most of them have poor skills. So they find difficulty in finding jobs. And after spending so many days and money in education they still remain unemployed. The main reason behind the poor quality of skills is due to unplanned education system. Every country has different needs, different kind of cultures. So education is made according to it. The New Education Policy 2020 will revolutionize the education system in India. It meets the current need of our nation. So today we will discuss about what is NEP and  how it works. I already explained the loopholes in the previous Education system to read that click on the link-https://mannkibaatsabkesath.blogspot.com/2020/07/the-system-of-education-in-india.html

What is National education Policy?

A national education policy or NEP is a comprehensive framework to guide the development of education in the country. Anew policy usually comes along every few decades. The latest policy is India’s third. It replaces the 1986 NEP, which was in place for 34 years.

What is in New Education Policy (NEP)- 2020?

1). The biggest fault in our old education system had, it tries to fit the students into three categories after class 10-

1.       Commerce

2.       Humanities

3.       Science

And this is very problematic -as a student can only those subject which is given in the particular streams. Like student who choose science as a main stream cannot study subject like accounts, business as these subject are given in commerce. But now under  NEP students have more flexibility to choose their subjects. After implementation of this policy a student can study political science with physics and biology with history.

2). NEP replaced the older existing 10+2 academic structure with the 5+3+3+4 system now. It is similar to the education system of other developed countries.

- In the new education system, education would now start at the age of 3. Preschool would be from the age 3 -6 and then class 1 and 2 for the next two years.

-  After this in the next phase they have “preparatory stage” for the next 3 years. In which the main focus is on playing, discovery and activity based classroom learning.

From class 6 to 8 would be the middle stage. In which the focus is on experiential learning like- science, mathematics, arts, social science and humanities.

The final stage is from 9 to 12 in which multi disciplinary studies would be focused upon and students would be provided with more flexibility and more choices.

Revolutionary changes in the Indian education system:

-For example, right from class 6, students would have to do internship in vocational training jobs such as carpentry, electric work, metal work, gradening pottery making, etc., So that students would be imparted experience in such jobs.

For this, there would be a bagless period of 10 days- where the students would take no bags to school but they experience these vocational jobs. And after this the focus will remain on vocational training.

-From class 6th students will learn coding which is a very impressive step by the current government.

-And the importance accorded to board exams in class 10 and 12 would be reduce, exam can be conducted twice a year. By this NEP can focus on knowledge based education rather than rote learning. Marks will be allotted according to overall performance of the year.

-Another interesting and positive policy change is that the report cards handed to students at the year – the progress report. Which is given the teacher according the performance of the students, but from now assessment will be done by not only the teacher, but the students will also self evaluate themselves and a final evaluation sheet is formed named PARAKH( Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development.

- Now government has decided that atleast 6% of the GDP will now be spent on education which is right around 3%- which is very low.

-Government tries to shift the rote learning towards things which need practical based knowledge for this exam will be designed in such a way.

After 12/ Post graduation changes:

-If will talk about after class 12- the best thing happen to it creating multiple exit point.

For example if you choose B.sc and after one year later, you realize that you don’t want to continue with it because you don’t like it. So you can drop midway. All the subjects that you have studied for one year, you can take their credits and get it transferred to another degree. This widely adopted in other western country which give respect to your each year of academic and don’t waste your effort.

In this system- in a 3- 4 year degree if you will drop out after 1 year, then you will get a certificate.

-If you drop out after 2nd year, then you will get a diploma

-After 3rd year, you will get a bachelor’s degree and after four years- a bachelor’s                                   research degree.

- MA and MSc courses will last just one year for those with four- year graduate degrees, and two years for those with three- year degrees.

Extra advantages to the Indian national student;

-Our government will give permission to top 100 foreign institutes  to set up their campuses within India. This will give benefit to those Indian students, who are willing to go abroad for getting higher education from these institute. So don’t be surprise if you will see university like Harvard, Trinity have branches in India. This thing will reduce the efflux of Indian student in foreign.

-Vocational training will be focused more in the upcoming 10 years and it will be integrated in all the schools and higher educational institutions in a phased manner.

Goals of NEP

-It is being aimed that by 2025, 50% of the learners in schools and higher educational institutions will have had exposure to vocational training.

Right now under Sarvya Siksha Abhiyan children from 6 to 14 had to get education which is compulsory, but from now free education is given up to 18 year of age which will increase the number of student in higher education. According to the government there will be an increase in number of student up to 50% which is now around 25- 26%, which will be great achievement.

-For teacher - a Common national professional standard will be set for all the teacher by 2022.

Also a four years integrated BA degree would be the minimum qualification required to become a teacher by 2030.

After a decade

If everything go right, well implemented than the future of our nation will become very different from what we have right now. By compulsory education upto 18 year of age will decrease the number of child labour cases in India. Right now our nation is known as technical hub of the world. Suppose what will happen if every student will start learning subject like coding from the 6th grade, where right now student learn all this in post graduation courses. The New Education Policy will give local language a great exposure and equal respect as student can study in their local language too.

Student will develop equal respect to all the jobs like gardening, farming, etc. Now you can choose dance as subject. Students will have a variety of option and can choose any subject in which he has interest.
